Old Rag Mountain 7/29/08

Today we hiked Old Rag Mountain.  This was Tisa's grand idea. :) Brooke just wanted to go camping and the next thing you know, we are hiking, rock climbing and shimmying our way around cliffs.  HeeeHeee.  This trip was very challenging for me.  I feel like I kept up pretty well, all the while trying to maintain morale for the little girls.  I truly didn't realize the extent of the hike or I may have left the little ones at home.  They did fairly well though, with the help of Tisa, Brooke and Brooke's sister, Faye.
The weather was good, although a little warm, we seemed to be on the right side of the mountain at the appropriate shadey times.

Lilah, a.k.a. princess, was a little whiney on the way up until she came to the rock climbing.  "I love rocks", she says.  Makenah had issues with squatting in the woods, and twice was crying about her stomach hurting, etc.  Finally, I made her squat, she made a waterfall, and we moved on.  Hannah wanted to keep up with the teenage boys accompanying Tisa, Thomas and Mikey.  No complaining from her was noted.  We saw a deer, a bear and a few centipedes.

This was a very satisfying hike for me.  I felt good about completing it.  I could not have made it last summer at 24olbs.  I would have been wedged between some of the rock formations awaiting weight loss to move on.

Thanks for challenging me Tisa!

Training starts!

Last night I ran with Tisa after work. We did 5 miles in about 55 minutes. Pretty cool after working 12 hours. We need to start actively training for the Richmond 1/2 Marathon coming up in November. November 15 to be exact. Here is the link for the site www.richmondmarathon.com.
This morning I took the 3 of the kids and the dogs for a walk and tomorrow, I have a 5-6 mile hike planned with Tisa, Thomas, Brooke and her sister and my girls. Will insert pictures tomorrow after hike. Wish me luck and little whining!!!

New Kicks

Got some new kicks this weekend. Will try this Nike+ sportband again since it has been on my counter for a few months now. It is compatible with these new Nike shoes. You put a sensor in the bottom of one of the shoes and then wear a wrist band. Hopefully it will be better this time with the actual Nike shoes. I gave it a try in April by wearing it on the outside of my other Asics shoes. Painfully off in how much I was actually running.

Went for a 4 mile run tonight. The new shoes feel good. Nice wide toe box. Liliah went with me on her bike. God love this one! She talked the whole way!!! Makes life interesting. :)

Ran tonight at the Cornball residence.  The course was .75 miles for one loop in the neighborhood. Sounds simple to think that 3 loops would be a piece of cake but throw in a couple of killer hills and HOLY COW, it felt like 6 miles instead of 2.3.  Cornball is awesome!  I can't believe she can run so far already!

Weighed in today.  Down .6.  I think it would come off quicker if I could just give up the Lays Bar-be-cue chips.  Ughhhh.

C'mon Tisa

The only thing missing from our run tonight was Isaiah saying "c'mon Tisa" .  Can't believe we ran after a 12 hour shift, and a busy one at that.  The weather was nice.  A little breeze would have been good, but no complaints.  Tisa and I did 4 loops around the hospital---3.6 miles in 40 min.  Way to go Tisa.  Tisa still doesn't think she can run the half marathon but I know she has it in her!!!!!

Quickie

I was able to run 2.3 miles this evening in Clearbrook Park.  We were at the park because I have volunteered myself to take pictures of my niece for her senior pictures.  I thought that we could get some good backgrounds here.   I think they will be just as good as the pricey ones she wants in Richmond.  She is so beautiful that it will be hard to mess up.

Went for a run this am with Stacy from work, my little baby Cornball, as I call her.  She is just starting to run again and doing quite well.  It took me a long time to be able to run the 2-3 miles that we have run together so far.  I admire her ability to keep up with me.  I realize I am not fast by any means, but I can keep up my slow and steady pace now for a few miles.  Hannah kept her 2 boys and my little man at the park on the play equipment for us.

Recent Runs

Saturday, July 5.  Went running in adjoining neighborhood with my daughter Makenah on her bike.  We did five miles.  When walking up my street for cool down, I noticed this plastic coin in my shoe.  My children received these at a pirate party a few weeks ago.  My little man was playing with them before I left and I guess one fell into my shoe.  I didn't notice it the whole run which cracks me up.  Today 7/7 I was able to run in the city park.  I was able to run for 42 minutes which for me is about 4 miles.  Felt good to be alone with no kids and jogger, although it is nice to have the company most times.

Wednesday, 7/2/08
Trying to get my mind off of when I can fit in a run.  I really need to work on the discipline of getting up in the early am before everyone is up and run then.  The heat is making it harder to run during the day and evenings are so busy with the Freak Fest.  It is funny to me how I obsess about when I can run.  It is so new to really fret about when I can run and how many children I will have to take with me.

Yesterday, I ran 2 miles with my 8 and 6 year olds.  We ran for 2 min and then  walked for 2 min alternating the whole distance.  They did pretty good actually.  Lilah could run forever I think and talk the whole time.

I went to the library today and checked out a few books on running.  I am trying to pick out a training program for this upcoming half marathon I have signed up for.  I am still trying to convince Tisa (co-worker) she needs to run with me.  I think I am chipping away at her reserve and feel she will do it.  I have also set a lofty goal of the Disney Marathon for 1/2010.  We'll see.  Great way to get the whole family to Disney I guess .

Weighed in today.  Down .4.   Total for WW is 57.8 and personal total of 63.4.  Out for now.  Little man is calling.
